In the village of Ruyi, the villagers exploit nature excessively, burning forests to create farmland and overfishing rivers. As punishment, the River God is dispatched to earth to discipline them. Jiang Ziya, unaware of the true purpose of the River God's actions, mistakenly believes he is slaughtering innocent villagers and thus subdues him. In the ensuing battle, Jiang Ziya accidentally injures some villagers. This violation of celestial rules leads to Jiang Ziya being punished with fifteen days of divine lightning strikes. Stubbornly, he refuses to admit fault and is subsequently banished to the mortal world by the Celestial Lord. There, he is saved by the mythical bird Qingluan and becomes acquainted with the villagers of Ruyi. Unexpectedly, the River God breaks free from his seal, and to regain his divine powers, Jiang Ziya embarks on a journey with others to the Fengshen Mausoleum to retrieve the Divine Whip. Through letting go of his rigid beliefs, he achieves enlightenment and ultimately defeats the River God in battle. In the end, Jiang Ziya petitions the Celestial Lord to allow him to remain as a mortal by the banks of the Wei River for fifty years, in exchange for the rebirth of the villagers who suffered, dedicating his life to the well-being of the world.
